Why Choose a Baby Carrier?
Baby slings, baby wraps or baby carriers are a great addition to your baby equipment. They can be used in various situations such as an alternative to a pram/stroller when shopping or on recreational walks or for use around the house. For a second child they can save the cost of buying a double buggy with the baby carried in a sling and the elder child riding in a pushchair.
Many babies, especially in the early days, hate being put down and love to be close to their mum and dad to feel safe and warm and bond with their parents. Baby carriers can calm and soothe your baby allowing you to get on with jobs or be with younger children with your hands free.
Out and about, baby carriers can give you more freedom than a buggy making it easy to negotiate steps and stairs, public transport and let you sneak into those tiny boutiques when shopping! If you are an outdoor type, baby carriers can be used on walks over terrain unsuitable for a pram with your baby snug and warm in winter and sheltered from the sun in summer. Older toddlers love being up high and chat easily with you when walking along.
‘Babywearing’ is a term often used for carrying small children in this way and although some parents use baby slings on an occasional basis, many parents can spend the majority of their time carrying or ‘wearing’ their child. Keeping a baby close to its mother also has the benefit of stimulating the hormones needed to establish breast feeding. With practice t is possible in many baby slings to breastfeed a baby when standing, sitting or even on the move.
